vital World Cup victory in Norway

Egil Olsen, the veteran and wily manager summoned by Norway to rescue their stumbling World Cup qualifying campaign, has spoken of the need to take risks against Scotland in Wednesday night’s qualifier in Oslo. Yet it is George Burley who will take the most calculated gamble by selecting a goalkeeper who has not made an international appearance in almost five years – and who conceded seven goals during his only two outings. David Marshall, of Cardiff City, last played for Scotland when the late Tommy Burns was caretaker manager in November 2004, following the resignation of Berti Vogts. Vogts handed Marshall caps in friendlies against Hungary and Sweden, which ended in 0-3 and 1-4 defeats respectively.
