youngsters helped put together £75,000 sports and play area

YOUNG people have helped build a £75,000 playground and sports area through a massive community fundraising campaign. An opening ceremony is planned for the site in the walled garden next to Cramond House next month. The local youth group, Sunday Plus, which is based at Cramond Kirk, helped raise thousands of pounds towards the cost of the play equipment through events such as car boot sales. It was boosted by a £45,000 grant from the local Waste Management fund, as well as a grant from Edinburgh Airport. It was also given £5000 by the Almond Neighbourhood Partnership. The playground features modern play equipment, as well as a football and basketball area for older children and teenagers. Cramond community council chairman Bill Scholes said the project had been a great success. He said: "The young people have done a wonderful job, and it's great to see them putting so much effort into something worthwhile. "It's all been installed now and it's already proving very popular. There are lots of mothers and children there at the weekend. It's been quite cleverly designed."
