Indian Breakfast Recipes

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. And in countries like India, breakfast is another opportunity to showcase their colorful and flavorful cuisine. In India there are different breakfast meals, which are favored by people and is also healthy and delicious. In some regions of India, these dishes are served at other meals other than breakfast. If you want departures from your usual morning munchies, try out some of Indian breakfast products below.

Chapati - It is unleavened flat bread made from durum wheat. The dough is flat in a big circle and dry cooked on a tava or hot frying pan. Chapati is often served with soup, lentils, chutney and curry dishes.

Idli - This Indian breakfast prepared from rice and black lentils cooked together into a tasty cake. The white puffed pastries served with chutney and other condiments.

Sambhar - As a breakfast dish, sambhar is a soup or stew that is rich in vegetables and spices. The bottom of the broth is pigeon peas or toovar dal and added ingredients are potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, okra, carrots, and spices such as fenugreek, coriander, turmeric, mustard seeds, and much more.

Stuffed Parathas - This Indian breakfast is not only nutritious, but delicious, according to many sources. Usually filling consists of potatoes, carrots, moong, paneer and some times cheese and radishes.

Upma - Upma is an Indian breakfast, which could be prepared differently depending on the person doing it. It could be made from semolina or Rava. Peas, onions, cabbage, carrots, eggplant, potatoes, cumin and other Indian spices added. Boil in a saucepan and mix together like a fried dough.

Tosai or dosa - This is India's version of a breakfast crepe, but it can also be served other meals during the day. The dough is made from rice and lentils ground together and mixed with water. When crepe is cooked over a hot pot, it can be served with pickles, curry, chicken, chutney and other condiments or vegetables.

Puttu - Another short and popular Indian breakfast delicacy, it consists of rice pasta. The rice is kneaded and moistened with just the right amount of water to achieve the ideal consistency. The dough is molded into rolls and steamed in a special contained known as Puttu Kutti. Puttu can be served with curry, lentils, chickpeas and chutney too.

Indian breakfasts are not hard to do. They are simple yet healthy and delicious. Indian breakfasts be considered proprietary in most parts of the world, mainly because of their versatility.
