False Sense Of Security

This is a very high percentage, and considering that many people still believe in these systems, they think is effective, this also includes "reality-based systems" or "no taboos" people need to be taught. It is incredible what is being taught out there in self-defense schools, joint locks, cross legged arm bars, which requires that you have to walk on earth. We have seen self defense instructors teach students to kick to the head or grapple with an attacker, step here again in this way, twist his wrist that way. Bottom line for many movements to remember, which is complicated to work for all in a high stress situation of a violent street attack.

They are lied to, cheated of your hard earned money and get a false sense of security. What is taught is to complicated to even work for a seasoned martial artist. It's like going to culinary school and your instructor has never cooked or even lit oven before, which he presumed to know how to cook, let alone learn. Unfortunately, people who have been trained in these programs learn self-defense in horror after being attacked the hard truth. Most self-defense instructors do not understand the effects of adrenaline and how it affects the mind, and motor skill performance. To top it off most instructors have not even been in a violent street confrontation, so how would they know what to do?

Many systems use joint locks and pressure points that require years of training to perform correctly. Some techniques even when applied properly to a person who has an unusual joint flexibility and high pain tolerance as a person high on drugs will not work. A lot of self-defense techniques should also be modified to work if environments change as being in a small room, or if there is snow on the ground causing slippery conditions. Does anyone going to remember all that while they are being attacked. We think not.

Here are some tips on finding a realistic self-defense program:

Choosing an instructor who is average or less in the building they will focus on using techniques that are not on forces that are important if you are a minor or a woman.

Be sure to check your instructor's credentials, ask to see his black belt certificate, it will say what he is under federal, and when he got it. If the director says he does not have one, than he is a fake. There are a lot of people who want to see self-defense instructional tapes or train in martial arts, have an orange belt and start a school. Anyone can go to a store a buy a black belt.

Do you wear loose clothes and bare feet when you coach and wear protective gear? Conditions quite different from the streets. If you answered yes, find a new self defense program. Education should be as solid as possible, or to state training stimulus. Although education, wear clothing that you use when you go outside, no gym shorts. This includes shoes or boots. This will give you a realistic feel on how to move.

Would you like to train in conditions specific scenarios. Should they have to change if you attack do something else, or if he does, than to do it? And then you ask what if he makes this point to make too hard to remember and confusing.

Methods must consider any kind of environment? Street, bus, rain, ground floor, enclosed spaces.

You can perform these techniques, although you are injured?

Are these self-defense techniques require constant practice? Do you have to separate techniques for empty hand, weapons or multiple attackers. Bottom line - techniques should be quick and easy to remember.

Education must focus equally in physical technique and mentality conditioning.

How you train is how you will react in the real world. Education should be as solid as possible so you can get out alive.
