Who is India’s top two general insurers?

It's time for a change of guard at India's top two general insurers - National Insurance Company and New India Assurance. The heads of both these companies are set to retire later this year. CNBC-TV18's Vivian Fernandes and Vidhi Godiawala report. The Chairmen of India's top two general insurance companies are retiring this year. V Ramasaamy, CMD of National Insurance Company, will hang up his boots in May. B Chakraborty of New India Assurance retires in September. The search committee comprising the head of the insurance regulator J Harinarayan, his predecessor CS Rao, and a Finance Ministry official have already arrived at a shortlist. Contenders for the top job include NSR Chandra Prasad currently Director and General Manager at New India Assurance and RK Kaul, General Manager at National Insurance Company as replacements. A Finance Ministry official confirmed these recommendations, but also said the Appointments Committee is yet to take a view. He was sure of a decision being taken before Ramasaamy retires, by when the government would not be bound by the election code. Meanwhile, there is buzz in the industry that M Ramadoss, currently CMD of Oriental Insurance is aiming for the top slot at New India Assurance. The Finance Ministry official said a decision might be left to the next government.
