Heavy Loss due to Road accidents: In India, every year approximately 4 lakh accidents are happening in which nearly one lakh people are being killed. Only 30 lakh km road is fit for travel in India. Arrival of new vehicles are increasing every year and by 2010 the new arrival will reach 2 lakhs. In this circumstances, every year 3% of National Production in India (i.e, Rs.1.2 lakh crore), it is estimated. In this background Indian Law Commission submitted a report ‘lawful renovation to avoid road accidents’ wherein it suggested to punish 5 years rigorous imprisonment to those who drive recklessly. –dinamalar- Monday 12 January 2009
