First rail : First rail started between Madurai and Trichy covering the 155 km distance on 01st Sept,1875 and its Engine and coaches manufactured in India. Second rail between Madurai and Tuticorin covering the 186 km started on 01 Jan,1876. The steam engines are now at Railway Museum at Delhi.
